Salsa at Sunset

It's salsa dancing, outdoors, at a great place with a beautiful view. This free class lasts 30 minutes and is part of SummerCity Wellington.

Films by Starlight: Labyrinth
When: Wednesday, 1 February, at 7.00 pm
Where: Botanic Garden, Glenmore St, Wellington

This is the new date for this film, which was postponed because of high winds (only in Wellington)! We'll meet at the big iron gates on Glenmore St, at 7.00 pm. This is a fun night out, watching a movie under the slowly darkening sky. Bring something to sit on (blanket or foldup chair) and, of course, layers.

Views of Our City: Botanic Garden Lookout
When: Sunday, 12 February, at 1.00 pm
Where: Cable Car sign on Lambton Quay

This is one of our city's iconic views. We'll take a ride up the famous Cable Car, enjoy the view at the Lookout, then wander down the Serpentine Path to the Rose Garden for a stop at the Picnic Cafe. Then it's a short amble back up to the Lookout, for one more view before we hit the Cable Car for the trip down.

Planning Meeting

This is a chance to help plan this group's activities. Come along to one of Wellington's most happening pubs and help plan the Wonders activities for autumn.

Ferry to Somes Island
When: Sunday, 19 February, at 11.45 am

This is an opportunity (weather permitting!) to disembark the ferry this time, walk around the island, take in the sights and tuck into a bit of a 'bring a share' picnic. The Ferry leaves Queen's wharf at 12pm and returns from Somes Island, leaving at 3:10pm. Meet at 11:30-45 outside the ferry ticket office (next to Portofino restaurant on Queens wharf) and buy your tickets, plus bring something to share for the picnic if you want to participate.

Commemorating the Anniversary of the Earthquake

On Sunday 19 February at 2pm, the Museum of Wellington City & Sea is commemorating the first anniversary of the Chch Earthquake. Let's meet in front of the museum 30 minutes before this event begins.

Summer Shakespeare: Twelfth Night
When: Sunday, 19 February, at 3.30 pm

“If music be the food of love, play on”. Such is the brilliance of the Bard in this gender-bending comedy. Show starts at 4pm. We'll meet at 330pm at the Dell, which is behind the Rose Garden. Tickets are $15. They will take EFTPOS on the night, but you might as well email or ring 801 6946 and get your tickets ahead of time.

Quiz Night
When: Every Monday evening (except public holidays)
Where: The Green Man Pub, corner of Willeston and Victoria

Quiz starts at 7.00 pm. We'll be there from 6.15 pm, reserving table(s). Max on a team is 8, so we usually have two teams for a friendly competition. This is a fun way to spend a couple of hours after work, having a drink and a bit of food with friends while testing the team's collective knowledge of current events, sport, pop culture, history, and more.

Games Night
When: Thursday, 23 February, at 6.00 pm

Get the dust off those board games, card decks, and parlour games. We'll meet in The Porch, which is out back, near the Garden area. We had lots of people at the January event. The Southern Cross will break out their Giant Jenga and Giant Connect Four for us this time.

Te Papa First Contact
When: Friday, 24 February, at 8.15 pm
Where: Te Papa Museum, Wellington Waterfront

The facade of Te Papa will become a dramatic moving canvas every night at dusk for 2012 New Zealand International Arts Festival.
Acclaimed New Zealand artist Michel Tuffery’s First Contact is a huge, multi-media art projection, inspired by Cook’s exploration of the South Pacific.
A free public event, it will transform Wellington’s waterfront, with a vibrant opening night performance on 24 February.

Greek Food Festival
When: Saturday, 25 February, at 11.00 am
Where: Embassy Theatre, Wellington

Come along and sample the many greek food delicacies, listen to the music, and watch the traditional Greek dancing. We'll meet in front of the Embassy Theatre and then walk just a few minutes to the Greek Community Centre. No admission charge.
