Friends, We need blankets urgently! We have given almost all of them out. Tina is getting a few more and I will bring some from Karen House. Here is the information on where to find folks and where we can take them. Some places to look for folks: 1. Across from St. Patrick's Center on Convention Center Plaza on the docks. 2. Along the north and west side of Christ Church Cathedral. 3. Along the steps and on the grate on 14th by the Civic Center. 4. On 15th Street between Olive and Locust, both on the grate and at the bottom of the stairs. 5. Check the busstop on Spruce and Tucker where an older woman often sleeps. 6. You could check the steps on the Municipal courts building on Market across the field from the City Hall (Angie this was one of the last places we went). 7. The grate on the street that runs along the north side of the stadium where it deadends at 4th. I think this might be Spruce and 4th. 8. If you had time you could check on the woman on the grate on Euclid near Barnes. 9. Probably most importantly, just looking around the downtown area. If there is much drinking folks could drop anywhere and these are probably the most important to find. 10.There are also folks camped out on the north and south riverfront. North: Take Broadway north of downtown to Florida. Go east toward the river about one or two blocks. There are two buildings on your right, one huge freight depot with very few folks left living there and a smaller building closer to the river where there are a few folks. The bulk of people living in this are are in tents in front of the eastern most building. Just park next to the buildings, walk toward the river across the railroad tracks and you will see more than one dozen tents. These folks will not want to go to shelter for the most part and have wood, propane heaters and impressive setups. We can check on them but for the most part they are not as much in need as the folks downtown with fewer resources who may be happier to go to shelter. There is also a camp on the north riverfront one block north of Florida on Mound Street. In the building there on Mound there are some folks. On the South riverfront, if you head on Chouteau toward third and then actually go down to second street, on the docks where we use to see folks, there are folks in that building and the small building to the north of it. Where we can take folks: Salvation Army Harbor Light on Washington, just west of Compton (652-3310) and Peter and Paul on Broadway just south of soulard market 621-5520 will take men in overflow beds and Gateway Homeless Services on 19th and Carr (231-1515) will take women and children. Karen House could also take a few extra women 621-4052 at Hogan and North Market. They ask us to call ahead to be sure they still have space and to let them know we are bringing someone.
