Oldest formal club in the US, founded in 1959 by Jean Bontemps, an importer from Provence, with a 'boulodrome' in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.  John Krauer has been the active president for many years.

Directions:
Take Park Presidio Boulevard
Turn right on Fulton street, along north side of Golden Gate Park
Turn left on 36th avenue into the park

Turn right at the next small street and find the courts ¼ mile down the road 

next to the dog training area

La Pétanque Marinière

San Raphael


Active Marin pétanque club since 1972 and affiliated with the Fédération of Pétanque USA, since 1975. Welcomes people of all abilities, ages and nationalities to come and enjoy pétanque. Casual games are played every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from about 1 pm. Tournament play is usually held on the second Sunday of every month.

Menlo Park


Club founded in the 1970's and has around 30 members. Games on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 12:30 PM. Tournament every third Sunday of the month.
