Proposal for JEFFERSON COUNTY REPUBLICAN PLATFORM - 2008 1. During peacetime, we support maintaining overseas forces at skeleton force strength at bases in outlying areas and minimum force strength at central bases located in allied countries. 2. We support bringing surplus troops home to bolster our own borders, live with their families, and spend their incomes in the U.S.A. to boost our own economy. 3. We support the Constitution as legally amended, and the complete Bill of Rights, including the right to bear individual arms in self defense and freedom of the press and of assembly (for peaceful protest). 4. We support a balanced budget at all levels of government in order to maintain a sound dollar, orderly markets, prioritized project choice, and non-inflationary interest rate levels. 5. We support a police force necessary to maintain law and order, but restrained from violating the personal rights and privileges of ordinary citizens. 6. We support a strong and viable school system permitting a wide assortment of public, private, and parochial opportunities for broad educational backgrounds, including the humanities and physical fitness programs, with a consensus minimum-requirement examination test administered at a maximum of three intervals of grade progression, followed by a fourth high school graduation requirement exam. 7. We support a federal government limited to the powers granted by the Constitution of our forefathers, thus established to serve society and all individuals therein, and not as Master or Big Brother. Decisions necessary to effect a free and principled society shall be determined at the lowest level of Government, collectively by the people most affected, in accordance with the principles of The Constitution. 8. We support an inclusive Immigration Policy with Work Permits as needed for our prosperity and U.S. Citizenship available according to existing Law, earned by virtue, industry, study and application, and not by amnesty nor by birthright through illegal parents. 9. Within a balanced budget, we support the construction and maintenance of adequate public facilities, roads, transportation, and communication networks collectively approved, for a healthy commerce, but not at the expense of private land and property confiscated by eminent domain for private economic development. 10. We support home rule first, fair trade and cultural exchange with other countries of the World, but must avoid entangling and restrictive treaties or arrangements which may hinder the sovereignty, fiscal integrity, independence, and historic values evolved by, within, and of the United States of America.
